Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. When her father's divorce from her family, she was grew to maturity by her mother, godparents and grandmother. As a child, Ford suffered anxiety due to an obsessional-compulsive condition. Ford began to become fascinated by acting during her teenaged years, and enrolled in the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. However, after a short period of days, she realized that the school was not suitable for her. Ford applied again for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and on the fourth time she applied, she was finally accepted. Shaun Dingwall - who later played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who - was one of her fellow students. Ford completed her degree in 1993 however at the time she was already making her television debut in an episode from 1991 of Surgical Spirit; she adopted her professional title "Catherine Tate". Tate was seen in television shows such as The Bill, Men Behaving Badly, and London's Burning during the Nineties. Tate was a regular performer on stage as well as a part of The Royal Shakespeare Company's 2000-2001 season. But Tate was soon gaining notice for her stand-up comedy, which she added to her repertoire in 1996.
