
Melissa Crystal O'Neil (born July 12, 1988[1]) is a Canadian actress and singer. O'Neil was the first Canadian woman to win Canadian Idol's third season, which aired in 2005. In her role as an actress, she is known for her roles as Two as Rebecca and Portia Lin in the Syfy science fiction show Dark Matter and as Officer Lucy Chen on the ABC police procedural drama The Rookie.Although she was greatly praised by judges, she experienced major setbacks in both the Top 10 and Top 9 weeks of the finals, since she was placed in the bottom three and the bottom two, respectively. The judges were shocked at this and advised viewers to decide to vote Melissa for her vocal talent. O'Neil was highly praised for her performance and she never dropped back to the bottom three. Zack Werner declared that O'Neil was "a threat" to win the entire thing. O'Neil and Rex Goudie made it to the top two spots of the contest on the 7th of September, 2005. After yet another stunning performances, Werner declared that "The King [Kalan Porter] has passed away Long live Queen". O'Neil defeated Goudie in the final results broadcast on September 14, 2005 , to be crowned the third Canadian Idol.
